608 - CODE NAME: DIAMOND HEAD with short: A DAY AT THE FAIR
Genre: Spy TV-Movie / Failed Pilot (S: 1947, B&W;
F: 1977, Color)
Short: This episode starts with a great short on a farm family as they take their livestock to a county fair.
This riffing is great and this short is also included on the MST
Shorts Vol. 2 tape from Rhino.
Synopsis: In the feature, the story deals with some kind of secret agent as he tries to prevent some bad guys from stealing something (I think).
This is one of the hardest reviews I’ve had to write because I
couldn’t figure out enough of the plot to write any sort of synopsis,
it’s that confusing.
Basically, it all “supposedly” happens in Hawaii and this was originally a Quinn Martin pilot for a series that
wasn’t picked up (seeing this mess, it’s easy to know why).
Don’s Review: The riffing by M&tBs is pretty good and the host segments are all great, as Mike gets to do a number of impersonations (his
Frugal Gourmet is priceless) because Magic Voice is showing the Bots what the SOL would be like with different people onboard instead of Mike.
The Mad segments are also funny as they deal with Dr. F and Frank trying to out-hygiene each other.
An episode that’s worth-seeing, but “good luck” figuring out the movie.

Forrest’s Review: Have you ever seen a movie where you do not remember one thing that happened?
I saw Code Name: Diamond Head just a day before I write
this, and I cannot remember one thing that happened.
I remember a fat guy, and a secret agent... and that’s
it! I cannot remember anything else. Even Don, who was able to make a
synopsis longer then one sentence for Monster A Go-Go
couldn’t figure out what happened in this movie. Was it a good movie?
No. Was it a bad movie? No. Well, I don’t know,
because I don’t remember anything about it. What I do remember is some great lines by Mike and the
’Bots. I remember the riffing being good throughout, and I very much remember the host segments.
The host segments had this laid back feel to them, but they were very funny, especially
Mike’s Frugal Gourmet bit. The host segments still had this
laid back feel to them. Sort of like the old Joel episodes.
In fact, this whole episode had a laid back feel to it, including the riffing, and Mike is an
especially nice person in this episode. It’s funny to see him this
laid back and nice, compared to his more low self esteemed and sarcastic character in most of his later episodes.
Overall, this was an enjoyable episode.
