412 - HERCULES AND THE CAPTIVE WOMEN
Genre: Low Budget Fantasy (1961, Color)
Synopsis: Another Herc flick, this one with some lug named Reg Park as the strongest man in the world, that starts off with a bar room brawl that has nothing to do with the rest of the movie.
Then it moves to a meeting in a big room with a lot of people arguing over something, that’s broken up when Hercules throws a stone chair around for kicks. Next Herc and the king of Thebes go on a sailing journey with a pig-like
Mini-Me and Herc’s son secretly stowing away on board.
Herc sleeps a lot while a lot of stuff is cut out (by BBI) and the ship apparently sinks, leaving Herc snoozing away on a piece of wood.
He lands on an island surrounded by fog and runs into a woman embedded in a rock.
She begs Herc to kill her but he, instead, forces her to be in the rest of the movie.
Then some magic super-old guy shows up and starts turning into things that Herc had to wrestle
and who Herc kills by ripping off his horn.
The girl Herc rescues is the daughter of the queen of the island, Atlantis, which is where
EVERYTHING is dedicated to Uranus (a running joke that needs no riffs).
The queen is none too happy about her daughter being rescued, so instead of grounding her she sentences her to death...
again. Herc’s son rescues the daughter from her second sacrifice and teams up with the
Mini-Me guy and some islanders who hate the queen. They launch an assault on the queen and, in a very lopsided battle (which we don’t see), are
ALL killed off. So Herc then has to rescue his son from the queen and has to fight an army of ugly albino clone soldiers by throwing tables around to get to his son.
They escape the queen and Herc casts some light on some sort of powerful hole that exploded when exposed to sunlight.
This causes a volcano to erupt, destroying Atlantis as Herc and the others escape in another ship,
where they rescue the princess for yet a third time.
Don’s Review: Another lame Herc flick, I
found this experiment to be a bit more enjoyable than the rest (although Gypsy, who sits in on this experiment and bails after only about five minutes,
didn’t think it was that hot).
And, like the others, this Herc experiment features some great riffs,
with the scene as the old guy is turning into different creatures as Herc wrestles him
featuring the funniest riff onslaught. I also really liked a funny host segment in which Crow and Servo invent a “Hercules” action figure that only wants to sleep.
If you like the Herc films, then this one is definitely a must-see.
