409 - THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN with short: UNDERSEA KINGDOM PT 2

Genre:  Detective? Sci-Fi? Horror??? (1956, B&W)

Short summary:  This experiment starts off with another chapter of the Undersea Kingdom serial (which seemed to cut off early – I wonder if BBI edited it down for time?).

Synopsis:  In this sci-fi/horror film, a robber (played by an old Lon Chaney Jr.) is executed after he swears revenge against the rest of his gang that sent him up the river.  A scientist then steals his corpse and reanimates it through some process that destroys the vocal cords but makes the man impervious to needles, bullets, everything! – he’s now the Indestructible Man.  After killing the scientist and his assistant (now that’s no way to say thanks!), the Indestructible Man sets out to extract his revenge on the men who set him up.  And, between killing the men off one-by-one, extreme close-up of the robber’s face clearly show... that he has a nasty twitch with his eye-brows.  Meanwhile, the cops are looking for him, one of whom provides Jack Webbish (i.e.. Joe Fridayesque) voice-over narration throughout the film.  Eventually, after finishing off his old gang, the Indestructible Man turns out to be very destructible after all.

Don’s Review:  This feature is a sci-fi/horror flick that seemed more like an episode of Dragnet than an actual movie.  The riffing on this was pretty good, continuing the good start from the short, and I liked the host segment with the extreme close-up of Joel pretending to be Lon Chaney Jr.  And the serial short is very funny – J&tBs are in good form with the riffs and I laughed a lot at this short   So this is a pretty good episode, overall.

Don’s Rating:     [ S:   F: ]
