108 - THE SLIME PEOPLE
with short: COMMANDO CODY PT 6
Genre:
Ultra-low budget Horror (1962, B&W)
Short: This
experiment begins with another installment of the Commando
Cody serial, with better than usual riffing in this
segment.
Synopsis:
And, in yet another ultra-bad horror movie, a group of
strange-looking, hunched-backed creatures called the
Slime People have somehow encased Los Angeles in a fog
that hardened into a dome and are now changing the
climate inside to their liking. An old scientist and his
two daughters are trapped inside the dome with an
airplane pilot and another young guy they meet at a
movie studio. They are desperately trying to find
a way out while avoiding the spear carrying Slime
People. They first run into the Goat-Man, an old
man who apparently thinks carrying a goat around will
somehow keep the Slime People away (but he’s soon dead
Slime meat). The group runs out of gas and are
stuck inside a butcher shop while the Slime People
wander around outside. The youngest guy and the
youngest daughter decide to go outside, where the
daughter is taken hostage by the Slime People. So
the two young men go out and rescue her and discover a
machine of some sort that is powering the wall.
But the old scientist says that instead of destroying
the machine, it’s better to just rub salt water on the
wall until they get through (whatever, old man).
Finally, in the end though, the old man destroys the
wall-producing machine with a rather lame girly throw of
a spear.
Don’s Review: Bad
movie... very bad movie... The plot of this movie
is extremely stupid as these Slime People take over L.A.
and produce a technologically advanced dome over the
city, yet they only use spears as weapons. Also
bullets can’t hurt the Slime People, yet a feeble armed
throw of a spear takes them out, no problem. And
the fog produced by the Slime People is so thick, that
in most of the action scenes of the movie, it’s too dark
and foggy to see anything that’s going on! But
this is a decent Season One episode, with fairly good
riffs and even a few good host segments in this episode
(although the invention exchange is rather lame).
