Short: Experiment starts with another Commando
Cody short and the riffing on it is still rather weak,
but it is a little bit better than the earlier episodes.
Synopsis: The feature is
about a mad scientist who knocks out brides on their
wedding day with a deadly orchid (hmmm, how not to be
inconspicuous – steal a bride on her wedding day) and
then steal their bodies for some vague never-seen reason
that is hypothesized out of the blue by some characters to
be to keep his wife young. A woman report decides to
check out the mad scientist and ends up being his next
“volunteer” – but luckily the young doctor she met
wants to marry her so he won’t let her go that easily.
This movie bears a strong resemblance to the other “Mad
Scientist” movies seen on MST, The Unearthly (ep
#320) and Bride of the Monster (ep
#423) with a mad scientist (played here by Bela
Lugosi) and his bizarre assistants performing strange
experiments only to be undone by some nosey “guests.”
Don’s Review: The riffing
on this episode is about average for an early first season
episode (ie. laid-back and somewhat sparse). And the
host segments are mostly unmemorable (although I liked the
barbershop one – mainly because I have fond memories of
going to a “folksy” old small town barbershop when I
was a kid). Overall, a so-so episode that’s worth
getting if you’re a fan of either Bela Lugosi or Mad
Scientist movies (or both).
