K20 - THE LAST CHASE

Genre:  Low Budget Sci-Fi (1981, Color)

Synopsis:  This movie stars the Six Million Dollar Man himself, Lee Majors, as a former race car driver living in a society so oppressive that they (gasp!) forced the people to give up their cars and then ride bikes and the subway instead (how dare they denial Americans their right to pollute and instead force them to use mass transit and breathe clean air!).  Anyway, Lee Majors misses polluting the air and when he hears that California has gone back to using cars, he digs up his racing car from under his garage and takes off with some kid for California (goodbye clean air, hello L.A. smog!).  The oppressive government decides that it’s important to stop Majors – so important that they dig up an old, decrepit-looking pilot, played by old, decrepit-looking Burgess Meredith, to fly a Korean War era jet out and stop him.  The rest of movie has Meredith enjoying his plane just a little too much;  Majors and the kid stopping at a naturalist camp where the people help him (because they, as naturalists, miss cars too. Huhhh?!?) and where Lee can get a little action;  finally, Meredith and Majors have a stand-off (of sorts) and the whole thing ends pretty predictably.

Don’s Review:  This is an episode I acquired partially for nostalgia’s sake and, after seeing it again, it’s another movie that I can’t believe I liked as a kid.  The riffing starts off pretty slow, but gets much better starting about half-way through.  Overall, this episode was worth it for me to go down nostalgia lane once again.
