K06 - GAMERA VS. GAOS
Genre:
Japanese Monster (1967, Color)
Synopsis:
This movie is riffed again on the show during its cable
run, so read the write-up for ep #308
– Gamera vs. Gaos for a plot
synopsis.
Don’s Review: This
KTMA episode features the third Gamera Monster movie,
which follow the giant flying turtle as he fights a
giant flying vampire bat like monster called Gaos.
In this earlier version, Crow is still frozen as a
Christmas Tree, so Joel and Servo riff the movie alone.
And, like the previous episode, the riffing is extremely
sparse, so that watching this episode isn’t a whole lot
different from watching the uncut movie unriffed.
The host segments feature Servo receiving a new voice,
this time it’s the deep Josh Weinstein Servo voice we’re
used to. Other segments feature the playing of fan
answering machine messages. One young fan invites
Joel and the ’Bots to his birthday party, but they
decline because they are stuck in space. (Servo, though,
does give the boy some amusing birthday advice, see
below). So another KTMA episode that’s of interest
mainly for the development of the show, but really is
rather light on the laughs.
Trivia Note:
Servo’s advice to the Birthday
Boy:
-
Greet
each day with a mighty roar
-
Always
know what time it is
-
Wear
Old Spice
-
Walk
briskly to and from your job and, remember, neatness
counts
-
Fill
your head with candy
-
You
are how you look. Me? I’m a gumball
machine. I embrace that and my colleagues
respect me for it.
Heed this
advice, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll grow up to be like
me, Tom Servo.
