Genre: “Making Of” Documentary (Color)
Don’s Review: This is the first “Making Of” documentary on MST3K, and
– most important of all – the only one made during the Joel
Era of the show. Hosted by a completely inappropriate Penn
Jillette (i.e. the talking half of Penn & Teller),
this is a rather disappointing half-hour documentary on the
show, mostly comprising poorly chosen clips and short, pointless celebrity
comments. The best parts are the few behind-the-scenes
shots and the handful of interviews with actual people from the
show (such as Joel Hodgson and Kevin Murphy). Worth-seeing for die-hard
fans only, otherwise I say give it a pass and check out the
later, much better documentaries on the show instead (i.e. The
MST Scrapbook and The
Making of MST3K).
